Fall is known for changing leaves, pumpkin flavors, spooky nights and sweater weather. It's the perfect season for cuddling up with your family, which of course, includes your four-legged companion.
Our pups are a part of our lives year-round, but discovering new activities to enjoy together during each season keeps your bond strong and your fur baby happy. These fun and novel activities are not only stimulating for them, but also exciting for both of you.
From fall flavors, to big adventures and Halloween scares, here are 8 fall activities you and your fur baby can enjoy together:
1. Go Leaf-Peeping!
Leaf peeping is the fall tradition of traveling to see the foliage as it changes colors. This year, take your pup with you! Whether you stay in the car as you drive by, or get out and take a hike, it’s a fun (and absolutely beautiful) fall adventure for the two of you. Don’t forget to play in the piles of fallen leaves!
2. Indulge In Pumpkin Deliciousness.
Every year, fall is known for bringing out the best flavor on earth: pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pie — pumpkin is an autumn must! Did you know that pumpkin is also really excellent for your pet’s health? Pumpkin is rich in fiber, potassium, iron and vitamins A, C and E. It can help your pup with gastrointestinal issues (and support immune system health in humans!), so absolutely enjoy that fall flavor. We recommend pumpkin bread for the "hoomans" and Dry Roasted Chicken, Pumpkin & Cinnamon Strips for the pups.
3. Hop On A Hayride.
Chances are, you’re already planning to take the family on an autumn hayride. This year, find a pet-friendly hayride and bring the pup! They’ll love it as much as they love the car, and you’ll get some adorable fall pictures in the process.
Don’t forget to check with the operator, and with all the other guests on the ride, to ensure it's okay for your pup to come along.
4. Drive-Through For A Latte And A “Puppuccino.”
Nothing says fall, like sipping warm coffee while wearing a warm sweater. Many coffee shops these days offer pet-friendly beverages! A drive-through with your dog is a sweet way to enjoy each other’s company. Follow it up with a walk in the park for the day of your pup’s dreams.
5. Rent A Cabin Or Take A Camping Trip.
Looking for a pet-parent adventure? Why not book a cabin for the weekend? Or set up a tent? Most dogs absolutely love the chance to be in nature, and it’ll give you a chance to rest and connect with your fur baby. We recommend taking hikes and telling spooky stories by the fire.
6. Start A Scary Movie Marathon.
We all love cuddling up with our fur babies at night. Gather up your pet’s go-to blanket and treats, and throw on your favorite fall movies. Watch as many as you want, and enjoy the sweet snuggles!
7. Trick-Or-Treat Together.
This year, include your pup in the Halloween festivities! Whether you take them trick-or-treating through the neighborhood, or bake a special treat for an at-home celebration, your pet will love the quality time and spooky thrills. You can find more ideas for Halloween pet-parent fun here!
Pet parent tip: If your pup tends to get stressed by lots of activity, treat them to a hemp-based chew to calm their nerves.
8. Visit A Pumpkin Patch.
Last but not least, a pumpkin patch is a fall must. Take your fur baby to the gourd-filled field and get a thousand cute pictures to remember the moment! Be sure that the pumpkin patch is pet-friendly and that you’re prepared with tasty training treats in case you need them.
The ultimate goal? Have fun with your fur baby! A strong pet-parent bond and new stimulation are the wellness boosts they need. And remember, no matter what you and your dog do together, they just love to be your companion.
